Jennye Rebecca

The Artist

I am a studio artist who creates a line of handwoven clothing for women. Formerly a resident of Atlanta, I relocated to the mountains of North Carolina in 2006 after retiring from 35 years of teaching art.

My first introduction to weaving came while student teaching. I attended a workshop in which each participant built a small loom for weaving placemats and runners. This workshop changed my life! Fascinated by the process of creating fabric, I returned to the University of Georgia for one quarter before graduating and enrolled in a weaving class. I was hooked! The idea of making fabric fascinated me and I had to have a loom. I spent several years experimenting with rugs and wall hangings before enrolling in a class on woven wearables at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. From that point on I have worked exclusively creating handwoven garments. My work continues to evolve through new color combinations, weave structures and garment styles.

I am proud to be a juried member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild and the Piedmont Craftsmen. Garments with the Jennye Rebecca label are available through the Piedmont Craftsmen Shop in Winston-Salem, the Guild shop at the Folk Art Center in Asheville and the Arrowcraft Shop in Gatlinburg. They are also sold at craft shows sponsored by both organizations and directly from my studio.
